Sensa

Sensa is an out-of-the box approach to weight loss.  Usually when you think fat burners or appetite suppressants you think about a pill or tablet.  Sensa differs in that it’s a substance that’s actually sprinkled onto the soon to be ingested food. When this substance interacts with the body’s sense of taste and smell, it is supposed to trick the body’s nerve receptors in to thinking that it’s full.  Thus eliminating the dieters desire for food.

What does the research say about Sensa?

We’re a big proponent of clinical research, but because the product is relatively new it’s hard to track down any independent studies.  Dr. Hirsch who developed the tastants, conducted a study in which 1,400 men and women lost just over 30 pounds per person while taking the stuff.  Those are pretty good results and we’d like them a lot better if they were done by an independent company. For now we’ll just have to take the good doctors word for it, but you can see the conflict of interest there.

What’s inside Sensa?

Ingredients: Maltodextrin, Tricalcium Phosphate, Silica, Natural and Artifical Flavors, FD&C, Yellow 5 and Carmine.

Those few ingredients are the driving force behind the product. I have a hard time believing that Sensa can really lead to 30 pounds of weight loss based on those ingredients. Several of those (Tricalcium and Silica) aren’t even in there to aid in the weight loss portion of the product but to keep the powder from caking and to help it dissolve once it’s applied to the food.

The Good

  • Created by a medical professional
  • No reported side effects
  • Solid 30 day money back guarantee for unsatisfied customers

The Bad

  • Not a fat burner, simply an appetite suppressant
  • Probably not a long term solution to weight loss
  • Limited clinical studies

The way we see it

It just doesn’t seem to be super effective to me.  You can get an appetite suppressant in a lot of different weight loss products that also contain fat-burning agents as well.  Why limit yourself to just one?  If you’re going to spend that much money on a weight loss product, it might as well help you burn your existing fat as well.  Seems like a lot to spend on a simple appetite suppressant.
